Front depicts South Dakota's state capitol building with inset photograph of Boe. Captioned on verso: "State Capitol Building/ Pierre, South Dakota/ 'The citizens of South Dakota join me in extending our most cordial invitation to see and enjoy our pine-clad mountains, vast prairies and plains, huge manmade reservoirs on the Missouri River, and sparking natural lakes.' - Governor Nils A. Boe [imprinted]". Not filled in or stamped on verso. Slightly creased at upper edge. Minor surface impressions, some near signature. Otherwise, fine condition. Accompanied by copper keychain, unsigned, 3½x1. On copper-colored chain. Embossed with the state seal of South Dakota at left and imprinted:"A portion of the original dome of the state capitol building Pierre, So. Dak. Erected 1908 Removed 1965 Nils A. Boe, Governor". Slightly worn at seal. Otherwise, fine condition. Withoriginal mailing envelope with 6-cent imprinted postage. Postmarked Pierre, SD, November 4, 1968. Typed address to a collector in Arizona. Nils A. Boe (1913-1992) graduated from law school and served in the United States Navy during WWII before he became an elected official. Speaker of the South Dakota House of Representatives (1955-1959) and Lieutenant Governor (1963-1965). He served two 2-year terms as Governor (1965-1969). Following his tenure in state politics, he was appointed to various law positions, including Chief Judge of the United States Customs Court (1971-1977). From 1984 up until his death, Boe was the Senior Judge of the United States Court of International Trade. Three items.
