OKEY L. PATTESON. ANS: "Okey L. Patteson" on verso of photograph. B/w, 8x10. No place, no date. To "Dear Danny". In full: "I am glad to comply with your request and I am so glad I had some of my old pictures left over from the campaign". At upper margin, Patteson has written: "This was my campaign picture". Okey Leonidas Patteson (1898-1989) was the Democratic Governor of West Virginia from 1949-1953. During his one term in office, Patteson located the state's first medical school at the University of West Virginia in Morgantown, less than seven miles from the University of Pennsylvania's facility, rather than in the more centrally located Charleston, West Virginia. He also oversaw the initial construction of the West Virginia Turnpike, and Patteson served as General Manager of the Turnpike after leaving office. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases and impressions from writing on photograph. Verso is lightly soiled, stained at left margin, not at writing. Name written (unknown hand) in pencil at upper margin of verso. Overall, fine condition.
