PHILIP M. DONNELLY
Signed letter of the twice elected Missouri Governor regarding the Supreme Court of Missouri. Extremely rare!
Typed letter signed: "Phil M. Donnelly ", in black ink, 7¼x10½. Jefferson City, April 15, 1955. To, "Dear Jim", James Daleo, Kansas City, Missouri, in full: "I have your recent letter in behalf of Mr. Henry I. Eager for appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Missouri. Your interest is appreciated and I will be glad to accord Mr. Eager consideration for this position. Sincerely". Phillip Matthew "Phil" Donnelly (1891-1961) served as Missouri's 41st and 43rd Governor. In his first term (1945-1949) he oversaw the implementation of a new Missouri state constitution in 1946, creation of the Missouri Department of Revenue, and welcomed Winston Churchill to Fulton, Missouri for the famous Iron Curtain speech at Westminster College. His second term (1953-1957) was only delayed because Missouri law at the time prevented Governors for serving consecutive terms. Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
