The Governor of North Carolina signs his name in blue ink
Signature: "Robert W. Scott/ Governor of North Carolina/ 1969-72" in blue ink. 3½x2¼ card. Robert Walter "Bob" Scott (1929-2009) was the Governor of North Carolina from 1969-1973. A dairy farmer, Scott had previously served as Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina (1965-1969). Constitutionally barred from seeking another term, Scott became Co-Chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission, and he served as President of the North Carolina Community College system from 1983-1995. The son of William Kerr Scott (1896-1958), also a Governor of North Carolina (1949-1953) and a U.S. Senator from North Carolina (1954 until his death in 1958), Scott was the father of Meg Scott Phipps, who served as North Carolina's Commissioner of Agriculture from 2001-2003. In 2003, Scott was implicated in a campaign finance scandal that led to the resignation of his daughter. She was tried and found guilty on five of the original 30 federal charges, and, in March 2004, was sentenced to four years in federal prison. Toned. Corners rounded. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
