July 2, 1958. Typed on personal letterhead of the State of Colorado to Charles J. A. Russhon. In full: “Dear Rush: It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to appoint you as Special Advisor to the Colorado Centennial Commission. Mr. Thayer Tutt, Chairman of the Centennial Commission, has advised me of your endless efforts on behalf of our great State of Colorado and the Centennial program. In appreciation of the citizens of Colorado for your loyalty and friendship, and with my kindest personal wishes. Sincerely”. Stephen Lucid Robert McNichols (1914-1997) was the Democratic Governor of Colorado from 1957-1963. McNichols, who worked for a year as a field officer for the FBI, returned to Denver to pursue a law career. A decorated veteran of WWII (Bronze Star), McNichols began his political career in the Colorado State Senate (1945-1955), and he was Lieutenant Governor of Colorado (1955-1957) and an unsuccessful candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1968. His brother, William Henry McNichols, Jr. (1910-1997) was Mayor of Denver from 1968-1983. Lightly toned and creased. Corners rounded. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
