In full: "Enclosed with his best wishes is the autographed photograph of Governor Egan and a photograph of his wife and family that you requested. I have also included a list of all the names of the past governors of the State of Alaska. Sincerely". List not present. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled at lower margin. Fine condition. Democrat William Allen Egan (1914-1984) was Alaska's first Governor, serving three terms (two terms from 1959-1966, a third term from 1970-1974). During his administration, Egan, a native of Alaska, worked to harness the state's vast natural resources. A veteran of WWII, Egan, who was also a pilot and business owner, began his political career in the Alaska Territorial House of Representatives (1941-1944 and 1947-1952; Speaker, 1951). Between his terms, he was Mayor of Valdez, Alaska (1946). Egan then went on to serve as a member of the Alaska Territorial Senate (1953-1955) and as a delegate to and presiding officer of the Alaska Statehood Constitutional Convention. Three items.
