Typed Letter signed: "William A. Egan" as Governor, 1 page, 8½x11. Juneau, Alaska, 1972 October 4. To Paul J. Frescot, Canton, Ohio, in full: "Thank you for sending me the First Day Cover of the National Park stamp of Mount McKinley and for the kind words in your letter. Your thoughtfulness is deeply appreciated. It is a pleasure to send you this autographed picture. [Items not included.] Please accept my sincere best wishes for a most successful stamp exhibition. Sincerely". William Allen Egan (1914-1984), a territorial legislator from 1940 and a former mayor of Valdez, played a key role in drafting Alaska's Constitution and became its first Governor (1959-1964). Democrat Egan was also the State's fourth Governor (1970-1974). As of 2013, Egan remains the only Alaska Governor to have been born in the State. Normal mailing folds. Binding holes along left edge.
