WINFIELD DUNN. Typed Letter signed: "Winfield Dunn" as
Governor, 1p, 7¼x10½. No place, 1973 October 22. On personal
letterhead to Danny Franklin, Phoenix, Arizona. In full: "Thank you so
much for your very kind remarks, and I am glad you had the opportunity to visit
the Great State of Tennessee. I have enclosed, at your request, an autographed
picture [not included] which I hope you will enjoy. Again, thank you for
your letter. With every good wish, I am sincerely". Winfield Dunn was
Governor of Tennessee (1971-1975), only the state's second Republican
governor since Reconstruction and its first in half a century. A former dentist,
Dunn went into banking after leaving the governorship, while remaining active in
politics. He was the Republican nominee for governor again in 1986, but lost in
the general election. Creased at top edge. Paperclip stain at top center,
touching image of state seal. Otherwise, fine condition.
