Signature: "Grace Bumbry" in black ink, 5x3 card. Grace Bumbry (born in 1937 in St. Louis) sang both soprano and mezzo roles in operas including Aida, Norma, Trovatore, Troyens and Tannhaüser, among others. A 1954 winner on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, Bumbry made her concert debut in London in 1959, followed by her debut with the Paris Opera in 1960.In 1961, she became the first Black to sing at Bayreuth's Wagner Festival. Bumbry, who recorded on four labels and appeared in concert worldwide, retired from opera in 1997, after singing Klytemnestra in Elektra, a role she had not previously performed. She is the founder of the Grace Bumbry Black Musical Heritage Ensemble. Fine condition.
