GRACE LIVINGSTON "MARCIA MCDONALD" HILL
The Christian romance author signs her name on this typed letter to a
fan, stating how happy she is to hear from them
Typed letter signed: "Grace Livingston Hill" in black ink.
5¾x9. May 15, 1936, written on personal letterhead to "My dear friend:",
in part: "I want to thank you for your kind appreciation. It is good
to know that you enjoy my stories and fine of you to take the trouble to write
me. In these days of doubt and criticism it is encouraging to hear from those in
sympathy with the Christian message. Thank you for giving me such a good
description of yourself and your [-handwritten] life, and the little
picture you send. It is almost like talking to you. What delightful times you
must have in your home, and in your church work with your music. I am so glad
you wrote to me... May God greatly bless you and give you a wonderful testimony
for Him, Very sincerely". Grace Livingston Hill (1865-1947) was an
early 20th-century novelist who wrote both under her real name and the pseudonym
Marcia Macdonald (also her mother's name). She wrote over 100 novels and
numerous short stories. Her characters were most often young female
Christian women or those who become Christian within the confines of the
story. As Hill believed the Bible was very clear about what was good and evil in
life, she reflected that cut-and-dried design in her own works. She wrote about
a variety of different subjects, almost always with a romance worked into the
message. Toned. Corners rounded and lightly creased. Small pamphlet attached to
front with information about the author. Newspaper article affixed to verso.
Otherwise, fine condition.
