GRACE MOORE and CLAUDE DAUPHIN The actress and actor sign opposing sides of an album leaf in ink Signatures: "Grace Moore" and on verso "Claude Dauphin". 4¾x3¾ album leaf. Grace Moore (1898-1947) was a soprano opera singer who debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in 1928. Dubbed "The Tennessee Nightingale", she introduced opera to the mainstream population in a string of successful musical films featuring operatic singing, including One Night of Love (1934) and The King Steps Out (1936). She was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in One Night of Love, which costarred Tullio Carminati. Moore was killed in a plane crash over Copenhagen during a European concert tour in 1947. Claude Dauphin (1903-1978), a French actor who began as a set designer, appeared in films for almost forty years, beginning in 1930. His stage debut occurred the same year, when he was working on a production's set design. An actor grew sick and Dauphin learned the role in just two hours. After World War II, his roles included many English-language films, such as April in Paris (1952), Two for the Road (1967) and The Madwoman of Chaillot (1969). He made guest appearances on American television and appeared in five Broadway plays, including The Happy Time (1950-1951). He appears in the cult classic Barbarella (1968) as the President of Earth. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
