GRACE MOORE
Vintage photo of the Tennessee Nightingale, inscribed in person to collector Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/From/Grace Moore". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature May 18, 1935. Grace Moore (1898-1947) was a lyric soprano who starred at the Metropolitan Opera, with an Italian and French repertoire. She also starred in two M-G-M films of the early 1930s, but was released by that studio for putting on too much weight. After Columbia hired her, Moore, dubbed "The Tennessee Nightingale", helped popularize opera in a string of successful productions, including One Night of Love (1934), for which she was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award. Moore was killed in a plane crash over Copenhagen during a European concert tour in 1947. Elvis Presley's mansion, Graceland, is reportedly named for her. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Light surface impressions. Otherwise, fine condition.
