GRACE MOORE and VALENTIN PARERA
The couple is shown with Jessie Ralph on the set of One Night of Love, inscribed by Moore to collector Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/from Grace Moore", "Valentin Parera". B/w, 8x10. The couple are shown seated with actress Gracie Moore. GRACE MOORE (1898-1947) was a soprano who debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in 1928. Moore starred in several M-G-M and Columbia films of the 1930s. She was dubbed "The Tennessee Nightingale", helped popularize opera in a string of successful productions, including One Night of Love (1934), for which she was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award. Moore was killed in a plane crash over Copenhagen during a European concert tour in 1947. In 1931, Moore had married Spanish actor VALENTIN PARERA (1895-1986), veteran of silent and early talking, Spanish-language films. The best known of these was La Bodega (The Cellar),1930. Jessie Ralph was a character actress specializing in matronly roles. She appeared with Moore in One Night of Love. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Multiple notches at left edge. Toned and worn. Surface creases seen head on. Ink stamp on verso. Corners worn and chipped. Otherwise, fine condition.
