PARAMOUNT PICTURES: GRADY JOHNSON As a publicity agent for the studio, he signs a 1954 travel voucher for the Hal Wallis movie, The Rose Tattoo. Document signed: "Grady Johnson", 1 page, 8½x11. Hollywood, California, 1954 November 7. Also signed by the Publicity Department head "Doug Bardger".  Claimed expenses of  $115.30 incurred on location in Key West, Florida, with itemization. Most of the expenses claimed were for entertainment and gifts to journalists representing newspapers and press agencies. Ink notes (unknown hand, possibly by Bardger) assign each expense to a sub-account, and include the notation "cut" (although the total expense claimed by Johnson has not been reduced). Grady Johnson, himself a former newspaper reporter in  Atlanta, was promoting the, The Rose Tattoo, an adaptation of a Tennessee Williams play, produced for Paramount by Hal Wallis. Whether the effect of the publicity effort, the film was a popular and critical success, winning three Oscars, including Best Actress of Anna Magnani. A revealing glimpse of how a motion picture studio's publicity department went about generating "free" publicity. Four filing holes and multiple staple holes at top margin. Horizontal and vertical fold creases. Corners creased. Top edge chipped. Pencil and ink notes. Otherwise, fine condition.
