Autograph note signed: "Graham Brown", in blue ink, 8½x3¾.
In full: "Dear Mr. Willis, Please eliminate my birthdate from
my biography in the next edition of Theatre World. Thank you". After earning
a BA in theatre from Howard University, Graham Brown (1924-2011)
studied method acting at the Actors Studio in New York City, and eventually
began his career as a Shakespearean actor at the Guthrie Theater in productions
of Hamlet and Richard III. He was an original member of the Negro Ensemble
Company and took part in many of their productions, including the
controversial play Song of the Lusitanian Bogey by Peter Weiss
which toured Europe and was subjected to a riot in London in 1968. His
best remembered role was that of Jared Philibert in the play Nevis
Mountain Dew (1978), for which he received a Los Angeles Drama Circle
Award. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn. Top edge slightly frayed.
