GRAND ADMIRAL KARL DÖNITZ
Typescript saying "I authorize General Jodl, Chief of Defense Forces General Staff and Supreme Commander of Defense Forces, to conclude a ceasefire agreement at the Headquarters of General Eisenhower"
Typescript signed: "Dönitz/20.3.79", 1 page, 8¼x5. In German. Translation: "Headquarters, 6 May 1945. I authorize General Jodl, Chief of Defense Forces General Staff and Supreme Commander of Defense Forces, to conclude a ceasefire agreement at the Headquarters of General Eisenhower." Dönitz has handwritten an umlaut over the "o" (two dots) in his typed name and changed the "B" in "GROBADMIRAL" to an "S". On April 29, 1945, Hitler named Dönitz as his successor as Führer before committing suicide the next day. A week later, on May 7, 1945, German Admiral Freideburg and General Jodl signed the unconditional German surrender at General Eisenhower's Headquarters. May 8th was VE (Victory in Europe) Day. Dönitz was tried at Nuremberg and served ten years (1946-1956) in prison as a war criminal. Lightly creased. Tackhead-size area of White-out used to erase number or letter in upper left blank area, pencil notes on verso in same area lightly show through (unknown hand). Otherwise, fine condition.
