GRANDMA MOSES
A letter from the American folk artist to renowned New York Art dealer Lewis Caldor, speaking of his recent trip to visit her and apologizing for the terrible weather: "Your will hardly want to see the north country again"
Autograph letter signed: "Mrs. T.S. Moses", 1 page, 6½x10. May 26, 1932. New York City, New York. Accompanied by original mailing envelope. To Mr. Lewis Caldor. In full "Received the parcle O.K. yesterday. Was sorry to hear that you had had such a bad cold. It was thoughtless of me not to have let you have a blanket or rug for the car when it was so damp. But I all wise [sic] think of things when it is to late. That was a terrible trip. You will hardly want to see the north country again. I'm just getting better of a sore throat and croup, so have not painted. Think I will have two pictures by the last of the week. Hope that you are now completely well. Will be glad to see you when ever it is convenient for you to come. As ever your friend". Post script: "Excuse lead pencil as my pen has gone to school". Although she did not start painting until age 76, prolific "American Primitive" painter Anna Mary Robertson "Grandma" Moses (1860-1961) produced about 2,000 works. Painted mostly on masonite board, her primitive paintings depicted scenes from her childhood and rural life. Between her 100th birthday on September 7, 1960 and her death on December 13, 1961 at the age of 101, she completed 25 paintings. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Corners slightly worn and creased. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
