GRANT MITCHELL. Photograph signed: "Good wishes - from/Grant Mitchell." B/w with sepia hue, 5x7. Stage and screen actor Grant Mitchell (1875-1957), the son of General John Grant Mitchell, graduated from Harvard Law School and practiced law for several years before turning to the stage. He was a favorite of George M. Cohan, who wrote The Baby Cyclone (1927) around Mitchell. In films from the early 1930s, Mitchell played leads in some "B" movies (Father Is a Prince, 1939) and was a character actor in "A" films (The Man Who Came To Dinner, 1942), often as a grouchy parent or small town bigwig. His other film credits include several classics: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Laura (1944) and Arsenic and Old Lace (1944). Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, diagonal crease at upper left corner touches the "G" in Good. Minor surface creases (not evident head on), diagonal crease at upper upper left background touches forehead. Light "silvering" of suit. Overall, fine condition.
