GREATER TUNA PLAY CAST: JASTON WILLIAMS and JOE SEARS
Both stars of the 2-man hit comedy sign on the cover of their show bill
Show Bill Cover inscribed and signed: "For Bruce,/Jaston Williams", "To Bruce/Best Wishes/Joe Sears", 6x9. Program for a production of Greater Tuna at the Circle in the Square Theatre [New York City]. Jaston Williams and Joe Sears, with Ed Howard, wrote Greater Tuna, a comedic play about life in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas. Williams and Sears portrayed all 22 characters in the play, which debuted in Austin in 1981 and had its off-Broadway premiere in 1982. A national tour followed, as did three sequel plays: A Tuna Christmas, Red, White and Tuna and Tuna Does Vegas. Sears and Williams did command performances of two of the plays at the White House, for George H. W. and Barbara Bush. Norman Lear produced an HBO special presentation of Greater Tuna, which due to copyright issues has never been broadcast again. (Rare VHS taped copies command high prices. Later productions are more widely available.) Sears later received a Tony nomination when A Tuna Christmas reached Broadway, and he appeared in the feature film The Good Old Boys (1995). Williams and Sears have continued performing in the Tuna plays in the new millennium. Left edge frayed from binding. Corners worn. Signature lightly smeared (legible). Otherwise, fine condition.
