GREG JARVIS and OTHERS
The original crew of Discovery 51-G; Jarvis was replaced.
Philatelic Envelope signed: "Greg Jarvis", "Dan Brandenstein", "John Fabian", "J.O. Creighton", "Shannon Lucid", "Steve Nagel" and "Charlie Walker", 6½x3½. Space Shuttle launch cover with 22-cent stamp, postmarked Cape Canaveral, Florida, June 17, 1985. In space until June 24, 1985, Mission 51-G successfully launched four satellites. The seven astronauts who signed this envelope were members of the original Discovery 51-G crew. Jarvis and Walker were replaced by Prince Sultan Salman al-Saud of Saudi Arabia and Patrick Baudry of France. Each was the first from his country to fly on the Space Shuttle. Walker was reassigned to the November 26, 1985 Atlantis 61-B seven day mission, his third space flight. Jarvis, awaiting his first flight into space, was reassigned to the January 12, 1986 Columbia 61-C five day mission but was again replaced, this time by U.S. Congressman Bill Nelson, the first member of the House to go into space. Jarvis was again reassigned to a Space Shuttle mission: Challenger 51-L. On January 28, 1986, Jarvis and his six colleagues perished when the Challenger exploded 73 seconds after liftoff. Fine condition.
