Typed Letter signed: "Gregory Peck" as President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. 2 pages, 8½x11. Hollywood, California, 1970 April 8. To "Dear Academy Member". In part: "During the past two years the Board of Governors has undertaken a name-by-name survey of Academy members and their professional activities. One objective has been to insure that all members who vote for nominations, and in the final balloting, are voting in the proper category... Another has been to make a just determination concerning the voting privileges of members who have been professionally inactive in motion pictures for a number of years. ..." The remainder of the letter summarizes changes in membership status, advising that individual members will be informed of changes in their status by a notice enclosed with this letter. Nominated for five Academy Awards for Best Actor, Gregory Peck (1916-2003) won the 1963 Oscar for the role of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. He received nominations in 1946 for portraying Father Francis Chisholm in The Keys of the Kingdom, in 1947 for the role of Pa Baxter in The Yearling, 1948 for playing Phil Green in Gentleman's Agreement and 1950 for the role of Brigadier General Frank in Twelve O'Clock High. He won the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989. Staple holes in upper left. Otherwise, fine condition.
