GRETA KELLER, CO-SIGNED BY: STUART ROSS, JOE SARGENT
The well-known Austrian singer signs this photograph along with her pianist and her first husband who would accompany her
Photograph signed: "Joe Sargent", "Greta Keller" and "Stuart Ross" in black ink. 10x8. GRETA KELLER (1903-1977) was a cabaret singer and actress. Born in Austria, she studied dance from the age of eight, followed by acting. Her début was in "Pavillon", in Vienna. She also appeared on stage with Marlene Dietrich in "Broadway". After being contracted by Ultraphon in 1929 she enjoyed great success with singers Peter Igelhoff and Peter Kreuder. For over 45 years her voice was familiar worldwide, in radio shows, films, revues, concerts and musicals. She was married to actor David Bacon, who was killed in 1943. Greta's greatest strength was in her ability to sing each song in a unique way. Her repertoire included songs from the 1930s through the war years as well as popular songs of the day. A few years before her death, her voice was heard in the Academy Award-winning movie, Cabaret (1972), for which she sang the song, "Heirat" (Married). STUART ROSS was a piano player who often accompanied Greta Keller during her performances. He also wrote music. JOE SARGENT was a singer who accompanied Greta Keller multiple times. The two were married for a short time at the beginning of Keller's career. Toned. Corners rounded. Lightly bowed. Adhesive residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
