A Girl in Every Port starred Marx as Benny Linn and Bendix as Tim Dunnevan, two sailors who purchase two horses in a "get-rich-quick" scheme. Ironically, the film ended Marx' career as a solo film star, but it was the first of a new multi-picture contract with RKO Radio pictures for Bendix. The leader of the zany Marx Brothers, JULIUS "GROUCHO" MARX (1890-1977) enjoyed success in vaudeville, on Broadway, in motion pictures and on television. He was famous for his crouched walk, outrageous mustache, ever-present cigar and lecherous glances at female co-stars. The most popular Marx Brothers films, which remain cult favorites, include Duck Soup (1933) and A Night at the Opera (1935). Groucho hosted the radio and TV comedy quiz show, You Bet Your Life (1950-1961), in which he was appearing at the time this film was made. WILLIAM BENDIX (1906-1964) starred on Broadway and in films, but he was best known as Chester A. Riley, a riveter at Stevenson Aircraft Company in Los Angeles, on the NBC television series, The Life of Riley (1953-1958). Bendix, who had played the part on radio, later starred in the pilot of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone. Two items. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 19¾x21½.
