GROUCHO MARX
Groucho Marx signs a protest document for the Franchise Tax Board.
Document signed: "Groucho Marx", 1 p, 8½x11. Beverly Hills, California, 1956 February 1. Protest to the Franchise Tax Board, with typed particulars on printed form, contesting proposed personal income tax deficiencies for the years 1950-1952, totaling over $3,000 dollars. Marx attests that a parallel protest has been submitted for his federal income tax and requests that further action by the Franchise Tax Board be deferred until the federal income tax dispute has been resolved. A red "X" (unknown hand) marks the spot for Marx's signature. The leader of the zany Marx Brothers, Julius "Groucho" Marx, enjoyed success in vaudeville, on Broadway, in motion pictures and on television. He was famous for his crouched walk, outrageous mustache, ever-present cigar and lecherous glances at female co-stars. The most popular Marx Brothers films, which remain cult favorites, include Duck Soup (1933) and A Night at the Opera (1935). Groucho hosted the radio and TV comedy quiz show, You Bet Your Life (1950-1961). Staple holes at upper left. ¼" nick in lower right edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
