Sale Price $595.00
Groucho Marx sends a typed letter to his lawyer about a mistake he made in an agreement with his wife Ruth Johnstone.
Typed Letter Signed: "Groucho", 1p, 8½x11. Beverly Hills, California, 1943 April 30.To his lawyer, Loyd Wright, Los Angeles. In part: "I made a very stupid error in not restricting a limit of $5,000 annually to Mrs. Marx, beginning the third year. I was under the impression that I had done this but, apparently, I didn't -- so, if I were to make $100,000 the third year, she'd get $25,000 instead of the $10,000 that she is receiving now. This is water over the dam and I don't suppose there's anything that can be done about it, but it certainly is an inequitable agreement...." GROUCHO MARXwas married to Ruth Johnstone from February 4, 1920 until they divorced on July 15, 1942, nine months before this letter was written. They had two children, Arthur and Miriam. LOYD WRIGHT later served as President of the American Bar Association. Creased. Folds, vertical fold touches the final "o" in Groucho. 2 file holes at upper blank margin, 4-inch tear at upper blank margin at right file hole (all paper intact). Receipt stamps at upper and lower right margins, penciled name (unknown hand) at upper center.
