GUARDING TESS MOVIE CAST: SHIRLEY MACLAINE and NICHOLAS CAGE
Both are shown in this captioned still from the 1994 film
Photograph signed: "Shirley MacLaine", "Nicholas/Cage". B/w, 10x8. Movie still from Guarding Tess (1994), captioned in lower margin. This film featured MacLaine as a cantankerous former First Lady, with Cage as the secret service agent assigned to guard her. SHIRLEY MacLAINE (b. 1934) made her Broadway debut as a 16 year-old chorus girl in Me and Juliet (1953). Her dancing skills were evident in the films Can-Can (1960) and Sweet Charity (1969). She received five Academy Award nominations for Best Actress, finally winning the coveted Oscar in 1983 for Terms of Endearment. (The other nominations were for Some Came Running (1958), The Apartment (1960), Irma La Douce (1963) and The Turning Point (1977). MacLaine has written several books on reincarnation, channeling and "New Age" metaphysics. Her brother is actor Warren Beatty. NICHOLAS CAGE, born Nicholas Coppola in 1964, made his film debut with a small part in the 1982 classic, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola (and nephew of Talia Shire and cousin of Sofia Coppola), he changed his name to make his mark on his own. Following a lead role in 1983's Valley Girl, Cage spent the remainder of the decade playing endearingly bizarre and disreputable men, most notably in Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), Raising Arizona (1987) and the same year's Moonstruck, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. The 1990s saw Cage take on a string of diverse roles ranging from a violent ex-con in Wild at Heart (1990) to a sweet-natured private eye in the romantic comedy Honeymoon in Vegas (1992) to a dying alcoholic in the astonishing Leaving Las Vegas (1996, Best Actor Academy Award). His other films include Con Air (1997), Face/Off (1997), City of Angels (1998), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001), Adaptation (2002, nominated for the Best Actor Oscar), The National Treasure films (2004, 2007) and World Trade Center (2006).
