He signs a typed letter refusing a request for an original cartoon
drawing.
Typed Letter signed: "Guernsey Le Pelley", 1 page, 5½x8½. Boston,
Massachusetts, 1979 January 26. On his letterhead as Editorial Cartoonist,
Christian Science Monitor, to "Dear Ms Mendoza". In full: "Your
letter, written many months ago, was at the bottom of a large stack of mail to
answer. Sorry for the delay. It is the Monitor's policy not to give away the
original cartoon, but I am happy to enclose my autograph. Sincerely".
Guernsey Le Pelley was a veteran cartoonist and occasional editorialist
for the Christian Science Monitor. From the 1950s he also wrote
plays, some of which (Nobody Sleeps, Cracked Ice) are still
performed by regional and school theater companies. He co-authored (with
Janet Bassemir) books of humorous cartoons, including Funny Side Up
and Once Over Lightly. Fold creases through signature. Fine
