Rome, 1930 November 1. In Italian, not translated. To the Director
General, Italian Navigation General, Genoa, concerning Marconi's yacht,
Elettra. The Elettra was built in 1904 by the Scottish shipyard
Ramage & Ferguson in Leith for the Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria and
was originally named Rovenska. She was used by the British as a
minesweeper during WWI. The steam yacht was purchased by Marconi in 1919,
renamed Elettra and converted into a floating laboratory. In addition
to the wireless laboratory, the yacht had cabins for Marconi and his wife, three
guest cabins, four bathrooms and an oak study. Marconi was awarded the 1909
Nobel Prize in Physics for developing the wireless telegraph. Rectangular
tanning around signature from prior framing. Paper clip impression and rust
stain at upper left corner, receipt stamp at upper right margin. Folds, vertical
fold touches the "G", else in fine condition.
