A radiant 5x7 photograph of the German champion skater signed with
all her best wishes
Photograph signed: "With all my best/wishes/Gundi", in blue
ink, B/w 5x7. Gundi Busch (1935-2014) was a German figure skater and was
the first ladies singles World champion to represent Germany. Beginning
skating at age four, Busch showed a natural talent for the sport which was aided
by her coach Thea Frenssen. Previously competing in the 1952 Winter Olympics and
placing 8th, she had bigger success in 1954, also placing first in the German
championship and the European Championship, giving her three first place wins in
one year. After moving to Sweden, Busch retired from competition and became
a coach, retiring completely in 1997. Corners worn and creased. Toned. Ink
smeared on signature, but clearly legible. Signature in poor contrast.
Fingerprint stains on left bottom margin. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso.
Soiled across. Otherwise, fine condition.
