GUNSMOKE TV CAST: JAMES ARNESS and MILBURN STONE
The only two cast members who stayed with the series for all 20 seasons, sign a 5x3 card.
Signature: "Jim Arness" and "Milburn Stone/"Doc"", 5x3 card. JAMES ARNESS (1923-2011) the older brother of actor Peter Graves, is best known for his role as Marshal Matt Dillon in the long-running TV Western Gunsmoke (1955-1974). The role was first offered to Arness' friend and mentor, John Wayne, who pushed for Arness being cast in the part. Arness also played Zeb Macahan in the MGM TV series, How the West Was Won (1978-1979), and he starred as Jim McClain on McClain's Law (1981-1982). Few of his screen roles were memorable, though one has become an object of cult worship: Arness was cast as the menacingly glowing space alien, described by one character as "an intellectual carrot," in The Thing (1951). MILBURN STONE (1904-1980), a former vaudevillian who made his film debut in 1934 in Burn 'Em Up Barnes, is best known for his role as Dr. Galen "Doc" Adams in the long-running Western, Gunsmoke (1955-1975). In 1968, he won the Emmy for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Drama (Gunsmoke episode "Baker's Dozen") and he was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 1971 for his role as "Doc". Only Stone and James Arness, who starred as Marshall Matt Dillon, remained in the cast for the show's entire twenty seasons (approximately 500 episodes). Light foxing at top. Otherwise, fine condition.
