Nobel Prize-winner in Physiology or Medicine (1999), signs on this First Day Cover honoring Employ the Physically Handicapped World Congress International Society for the Welfare of Cripples
First Day Cover signed: "Günter Blobel", 6½x3½. First Day Cover honoring Employ the Physically Handicapped World Congress International Society for the Welfare of Cripples, four 4-cent stamps affixed, postmarked New York, New York, August 28, 1960, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Born in Germany and affiliated with Rockefeller University, New York, Blobel (b. 1936) received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1999 "for the discovery that proteins have intrinsic signals that govern their transport and localization in the cell." The University's press release after his award was announced described these signals as a cellular "ZIP code-like system" to route proteins to where they could perform their functions. Fine condition.
