28, 8-cent stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Metallic cachet is captioned:
"Emily Dickinson, American Poet, Sarazin 1971". German novelist and social
critic Grass (1927-2015) was awarded the 1999 Nobel Prize for Literature for
his body of work, which included his first novel, The Tin Drum
(1959), the first of his The Danzig Trilogy. The trilogy,
which also included Cat and Mouse and Dog Years,
captured German reaction to the rise of Nazism, the horrors of war and the
nation's guilt following Hitler's regime. Cachet plate slightly dented.
