The Pulitzer Prize winning poet signs this typescript titled “A Catch of Shy Fish”
Typescript signed: "Gwendolyn Brooks", 1p, 8½x11. Headed: "A Catch of Shy Fish/Sich (sic,
Sick) Man Looks at Flowers". Two stanzas of Brooks' poem. Gwendolyn Brooks
(1917-2000) won the Pulitzer Prize in 1950 for her second book of poetry, Annie Allen,
becoming the first Black author to receive the honor. Her poetry, which was first published
in 1945, later focused on the African-American struggle for freedom. In 1968, Brooks was
named Poet Laureate of Illinois, succeeding Carl Sandburg. Lightly creased with folds, not at
signature. Fine condition.
