GYPSY ROSE LEE
A contract signed by the vaudeville star for Leonard Sillman to act
as her "Personal Representative" for a period of one year. This contract would
later be terminated by Lee.
Document signed: "Gypsy Rose Lee", 2p, 8½x11 onion skin paper.
Signed on page 2. Also signed by: "Audrey Sturges". New York,
N.Y., 1935 December 5. Lee engages Leonard Sillman of New York City as her
exclusive Personal Representative and Business Adviser for a period of one year
from this date. Sillman's compensation is to be 10% of all monies earned by Lee
from any and all appearances in the amusement field. Born Rose Louise Hovick,
Gypsy Rose Lee (1914-1970) was put on vaudeville stages as a child by her
ambitious mother, playing secondary roles behind her younger sister "Baby
June", who became the actress June Havoc. Lee found her true niche as
Gypsy Rose Lee, the most famous name in strip tease. In addition to
appearing in films from 1937-1969 and on television from 1956, Lee also wrote a
play (which became the 1945 film, Doll Face) novels and an autobiography.
Her 1957 autobiography, Gypsy, premiered as celebrated Broadway
musical in 1959 and was later made into two feature films of the same name.
