AUTHORS: BRITISH. Signatures: "A.A. Milne," "H.G. Wells," and "Humbert Wolfe," and on verso "Ian Hamilton/27.3.31" and, on a small slip of paper affixed to the sheet, "Charles Morgan/Oct. 13, 1932." 2p, 4-1/8x3½. MILNE (1882-1956) wrote the timeless Winnie-the-Pooh as well as poems for his son, Christopher Robin. WELLS (1866-1946) wrote not only an ambitious Outline of History (1920), but also enduring science fiction novels, including The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Time Machine. WOLFE (1885-1940) was an Oxford-educated British civil servant and distinguished poet. Ian Standish Monteith HAMILTON (1853-1947) was a British General who served with distinction in the South African War but was relieved of his command of the disastrous Gallipoli campaign in World War I. He devoted the rest of his life to pacifistic writing. MORGAN (1894-1958), a drama critic for the "London Times" who served in the British navy in both world wars, wrote several plays, eleven novels and dozens of essays. A nice collection of English writers from the first half of the twentieth century. On a pale green sheet of paper. Very light stain at lower tip of paraph beneath Wells' signature, else fine.
