The writer signs this typed letter congratulating a colleague on his wedding anniversary
Typed letter signed: "H.I.P." in pencil. 8½x5½. Typed on letterhead of the New York Sun,
Editorial Department, to "Dear Louis Sobol:" in full: "Just read in Dan's column about your
wedding anniversary, and as a fellow Connecticut ex slave, I offer my congratulations and best
wishes. When a columnist's wife can live with him that long it's sumpin. When the wife asks
you for the secret of your succcess [sic] credit me with an assist as the fellow who assured you
there was no future in the newspaper business. Best to you both". H.I. Phillips was a
newspaper columnist and editor for The New York Sun. Signer merits further research.
Lightly toned. Corners rounded and creased. Horizontal fold across center. Pencil notes
(unknown hand) on front. Date stamp near top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
