Typed Letter signed: "H. John Heinz III" as a Member of Congress, 1 page, 5½x8½. Washington, D.C., 1976 December 20. On Congressional letterhead to Frank C. P. McGinn, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In full: "Thank you very much for your warm words of congratulations. It certainly was a hard fought victory and one that came about from my many friends and supporters throughout the state. I look forward with great enthusiasm to serving all of the citizens of Pennsylvania in the United States Senate. With warm personal regards, Sincerely".Henry John Heinz III (1938-1991), grandson and namesake of the H. J. Heinz who founded the food company, attained an MBA from Harvard Business School, taught at Carnegie Mellon University, and worked in the finance and marketing divisions of Heinz Corp. He represented Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives (1971-1977) and Senate (1977-1991), elected to the Senate 6 weeks before he signed this letter. Heinz died when the private plane he was flying collided in mid-air with a helicopter. His widow, Teresa, later married US Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry. Accompanied by original typed envelope. Normal mailing folds - affecting top edge of signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
