H.L. HUNT
Letter from Hunt responding to the writer's comments on his appearance on 60 Minutes and sending two books for his collection (items not included)
Typed letter signed: "H.L. Hunt", 8½x11. Dallas, 1969 May 12. On his personal letterhead to Selwyn C. Gamble, Senatobia, Mississippi. In full: "I greatly appreciate your taking the time to write me regarding my appearance on the CBS show, '60 Minutes.' By separate mail I am sending you autographed copies of my books, WHY NOT SPEAK and HUNT FOR THE TRUTH, and a copy of an old-time picture which was taken at the site of the East Texas discovery well. One of the columns in HUNT FOR THE TRUTH tells the story of my purchase of the 'Dad' Joiner discovery. Material concerning some of my work in behalf of freedom is being sent to you, and I hope you will find my efforts have merit." The oil magnate, who promoted his conservative views in newspaper columns, books and radio shows, published Why Not Speak, a collection of speeches by Hunt and others, in 1964 and Hunt for the Truth, a compilation of his newspapers columns, in 1965. Haroldson Lafayette "H.L." Hunt (1889-1974) amassed his fortune in cotton land and oil leases. Hunt Oil, founded in 1936, became the largest independent oil and gas producer in the U.S. Lightly creased. Shaded at upper blank edge. Lightly toned. Normal mailing folds. Corners slightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
