Fund
Typed Letter signed: "H. V. Kaltenborn", 1p, 7¼x10½. New
York, N.Y., 1945 January 16. On personal letterhead to Mr. O'Connor,
American Red Cross Headquarters, Washington, D.C. In full: "I enclose
another check for $25 to be added to the Book Fund about which I have written
you before." Hans VonKaltenborn (1878-1965) was chief news
commentator for CBS (1929-1940), switching over to NBC in 1940. He was famed
for his almost nonstop broadcasts during the 1938 Munich crisis, his reports
from European and Pacific fronts in WWII and his coverage of presidential
campaigns beginning in 1932. Kaltenborn was a panelist on the NBC TV quiz
show, Who Said That? in 1954. Five horizontal folds. Staple holes at top
edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
