Card signed by the former Israeli Chief of the General Staff in English and Hebrew, postmarked in Brooklyn, New York in 1977 with a Thomas Jefferson stamp affixed
Signatures: "Haim Barlev" twice in Hebrew and English. 5x3 ruled card. Postmarked Brooklyn, New York, April 6, 1977. One 1-cent green-and-white Thomas Jefferson stamp affixed. Austrian-born Barlev (1924-1994) commanded a regiment of Israel's Palmach guerillas during the British Mandate of Palestine, the Eight Battalion of the Negev Brigade during the War of Independence (1948-1949), and an armored brigade during the Sinai Campaign (1956) before being appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces during the Six-Day War (1967), Chief of the General Staff (1968-1971) and commander of Israel's Southern Command during the Yom Kippur war (1973). He was later a member of the Knesset (1977-1992), where he served as Minister of Trade and Industry (1969-1977), Minister of Development (1974) and Minister of Police (1984-1990). Lightly toned. Random ink notations. Otherwise , fine condition.
