The famed poet's son signed this handwritten letter in 1897.
Autograph Letter signed: "Tennyson", 1 page, 3¾x5¾. Alworth, Haslemere, Surrey (England), 1897 November 21. On personal letterhead to A. C. King. In full: "I thank you cordially for your letter which has given me great pleasure. Yours faithfully". Fold crease, not near signature. Fine condition. Accompanied by envelope (4x3¼) addressed in Tennyson's hand to A. C. King, South Kensington, London. Hallam Tennyson (1852-1928), the eldest son of Victorian England's most beloved poet, Alfred Tennyson, became the second Baron Tennyson upon his father's death in 1892. Hallam wrote a biography of his father in 1897. In 1899, Tennyson was appointed Governor of South Australia; he ascended to Governor-General of Australia in 1902. Despite his lack of political experience, he proved a popular Governor-General. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
