Tennyson (1852-1928), the eldest son of Victorian England's most beloved poet,
Alfred Tennyson, became the second Baron Tennyson upon his father's death in
1892. He was named for Arthur Hallam, his father's friend and fellow poet
who was engaged to Alfred Tennyson's sister at the time of his death. Hallam
Tennyson wrote a biography of his father in 1897. In 1899, he was
appointed Governor of South Australia, ascending to Governor-General of
Australia in 1902. Despite his lack of political experience, he proved a
popular Governor-General. Tennyson's mother, Emily, outlived her husband by four
years, dying in 1896. Two items.
