HAPPY LANDINGS MOVIE CAST: CESAR ROMERO and ETHEL MERMAN
Still from the 1938 film, inscribed and signed by Romero and Merman, who are shown in an intimate moment
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Esther -/Good luck from/Cesar Romero", "To Esther/Sincerely/Ethel Merman". B/w 8x10. Possessing one of the richest, most powerful voices in the history of theater, ETHEL MERMAN (1908-1984), the "First Lady" of American musical comedy strutted her way across the stage during five decades of show-business success, beginning with her breakout in 1930's Girl Crazy and continuing on to memorable parts in Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy. "I Got Rhythm" from Girl Crazy and "There's No Business Like Show Business" from Annie Get Your Gun became her trademark songs. A Broadway actor from 1927 and film performer from 1933, CESAR ROMERO (1907-1994) often played comic second leads. He said that his favorite movie role was that of Cortez in The Captain from Castille (1947). His TV roles included "The Joker" on Batman (1966-1968) and Peter Stavros, who married Jane Wyman's Angela Channing on Falcon Crest (1985-1988). Happy Landings (1938) was a Sonje Henie film, with Merman and Romero as secondary leads. But many critics thought their acting, and of course Merman's singing, stole the movie from Henie and Don Ameche. Lightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
