Sale Price $90.00
Korean War double ace Harold Fischer wrote this note on a letter asking him about the artwork on his plane.
Autograph Note signed: "H E F", 1 p, 8½x11. Written at the bottom of a typed, undated letter requesting information about the art work on his plane. In full: "1 - I chose the name from a book by Edgar Snow, 'Red Star Over China. It referred to Americans as Paper Tigers. 2 - Sharks Teeth because the orientals reportedly were afraid of sharks." A fighter pilot during the Korean War, Fischer (1925-2009) had ten confirmed kills of enemy aircraft, and another uncredited one during a final dogfight on April 7, 1953 in which he had to bail out over Chinese territory and was taken prisoner. He remained in captivity, mostly in solitary confinement, until 1955. Returning to United States Air Force service, he was an advisor to the Vietnamese air force during that conflict. On a visit to the Ukraine (1994), he met some of the Russian pilots involved in his last dogfight. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
