In full: "Dear Frank: On the 10th of February at the Waldorf in New
York The Pilgrims of the United States will give a dinner in honor of the
British Prime Minister, Harold Wilson. If you would wish to attend, I would be
pleased to have you be a guest at my table. On the basis of past experience,
there will probably be quite a distinguished New York audience in attendance.
May I add that unfortunately this is a dinner for men only. It will be a black
tie affair. With personal best wishes, as ever, Sincerely yours, " Harold
E. Stassen (1907-2001), "The Boy Wonder of Politics", was elected Governor
of Minnesota at age 31, serving from 1939 to 1943, when he resigned to join the
U.S. Navy. In 1945, he was one of the Signers of the Charter of the United
Nations. Never holding elective office again, Stassen was an announced
candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 1952, 1964, 1968, 1972,
1976 and 1980. Light horizontal fold creases. Ink lightly smudged at date. Fine
condition.
