Typed Letter signed: "Harold E. Stassen", 1 page, 8x11, St Paul, Minnesota, 1946 March 12. On personal letterhead to E. P. McKean-Smith, Rhododendron, Oregon, in full: "Thank you for your kind letter of February 7th. I appreciate your interest and thoughtfulness in writing to me and equally appreciate your most friendly words. Sincerely". Harold E. Stassen (1907-2001), "The Boy Wonder of Politics", was elected Governor of Minnesota at age 31, serving from 1939 to 1943, when he resigned to join the U.S. Navy. In 1945, he was one of the Signers of the Charter of the United Nations. Stassen advised President Eisenhower as a member of the Mutual Security Agency, Director of the Foreign Operations Administration and as the President's assistant on arms control. Never holding elective office again, Stassen sought the US Presidential nomination 12 times between 1944 and 1992. Lightly creased. Shaded right margin. Fold touches "H".
