HAROLD GATTY. ALS: "Harold Gatty" in pencil, 1p, 5x3. No place, no date. In
full: " Sorry I missed you. Am on my way to San Francisco & New York. Expect to be
back through here in two or three weeks." Harold Gatty was the navigator for Wiley Post on
their historic flight around the world in eight days, 15 hours and 51 minutes in 1931. Their
eastward flight in the single-engine Winnie Mae began at Roosevelt Field, Long Island on June
23, 1931 and ended there on July 1, 1931, making ten stops en route. Lindbergh once called
Gatty "the best navigator in the country if not in the whole world." Lightly creased. Mid-vertical
fold. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Overall, fine condition.
