Signed 1973 letter to New York columnist Louis Sobol, thanking him for sending a copy of the Actors Fund history.
Typed letter signed "Hal P.", in black ink. 1 page, 8½x7. New York City, New York, January 15, 1973. On his personal letterhead to "Dear Louis" Louis Sobol, The Actors Fund, New York City, in full: "Thank you for my copy of the Actors Fund history. I look forward to reading it. Best,". Prince, born in New York City in 1928, has a long list of Tony Awards to his credit. He directed and/or produced the following Tony winners, many of which also earned him Broadway's coveted plaudit as Best Director: Pajama Game (1955), Damn Yankees (1956), New Girl in Town (1958), Fiorello! (1960), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1963), Fiddler on the Roof (1965), Cabaret (1967), Company (1971), A Little Night Music (1973), Candide (1974), Sweeney Todd (1979), Evita (1980), and Phantom of the Opera (1988), culminating in a Lifetime Achievement Tony in 2006. If his nominated plays were added to the list, "minor" achievements like West Side Story and Kiss of the Spider Woman, this list would be even longer. Prince has also worked in film and television, including screen adaptations of some of his Broadway productions. Fiorello! also garnered Prince a Pulitzer Prize. Louis Sobol (1896-1986) wrote a gossip-oriented entertainment column for 40 years, initially focused on the Broadway stage but also covering film and TV personalities, for the New York Journal American Creased from folds. Corners creased. Ink note (unknown hand) at top margin. Signature beaded, but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
