Autograph letter signed: "Sincerely/Harriet Ballin", in black
ink, 5x7¼ closed, 10¼x7¼ open. In full: "Dear Mr. Sobob, Your heart-breaking
story touched me deeply. Am enclosing five dollars and wil you please have some
shop send this lady a few oranges 'from a professional sister'./Sister and I
were with the original Ziegfeld Follies. We're both widows but able to work and
glad to contribute to 'Meals for Millions' at present. Is there some other way I
can be useful? Do hope your readers will be as generous as they can."
Harriet Ballin (1885-1974) was one of the original cast members in New
York's Ziegfeld Follies, a dance and comedy theatrical production on
Broadway from 1907 through 1931.
