HARRIET CRAWLEY
Letter on stationery of her TV program, Collecting Now
Typed Letter signed: "Harriet Crawley", 1 page, 8¼x8¾.
Bristol [England], 1981 November 10. On letterhead of her BBC-TV
show Collecting Now to "Dear Dave", in full: "Many
thanks for your letter and I am so glad you like the programme. I enclose a
photograph of myself - I don't like it much but I'm afraid it's the only one
we've got. [Item not included.] With all good wishes". Harriet
Spencer Crawley (b. 1948), the daughter of TV executive and long-serving
Member of Parliament Aidan Marivale Crawley was a British TV presenter and
also a Conservative Party candidate for Parliament in 1987. (She lost, but
narrowly to a strong Labour incumbent, despite being accurately described by the
Times (accurately) as "pregnant and unmarried" one week before the
election.) Crawley's life was beset by tragedy. Her mother was killed in an auto
crash in France (1983), both her brothers died in a private plane crash en route
to her 40th birthday party, and her father died penniless after a series of
financial setbacks. Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
